Friday, 3 June – highlights
16:00 - 17:30 EEST (RIGA TIME)
Plenary Session - on Foreign Affairs and Security
The Council is going to take place in the capital city of Latvia, a country
sharing a land border with the Russian Federation. As the war in Ukraine is
taking a toll on lives and livelihoods, we as a Green family in
governmental positions in several European countries must address the
question of how we imagine the future of security and defence policy in
Europe.
The objectives of the session are to spark a conversation on the adequate
Green response to the current crisis, complement the resolution on Ukraine
that the Council is going to vote on, showcase that Green policies extend
beyond climate action and environmentalism and give a voice to locals and
experts on what can and should be the path forward from the current
situation. What are the consequences of the war from a human rights
perspective? What does the future hold for the security and defence policy
of Europe? What are the steps ahead the Greens are putting on the table?

Plenary session - Building a Green Future: A Just Transition in a Time of
Crisis
No climate justice without social justice: Greens need to build on this
slogan and show that we have the expertise to drive the green transition
with a social perspective. Our climate profile goes hand in hand with our
policies and vision for a future that can protect the most vulnerable and
marginalized, while also creating a better future for all.
In this panel, we need to tackle not only the implications (in short, mid
and long term) of the current rise of energy prices (also due to Russia
dependence) and the direct impact that it has on households. We also need
to counter the false myth that a green transition means jobs losses and
increased costs for daily life (mobility, energy bills, housing). Read more
