‌John -- While we may be reaching the tail-end of the 2021 map-drawing process, Republicans have not slowed their attempts to use gerrymandering to lock in power. Before I tell you what’s happening in states across the country, will you join our fight to end gerrymandering over the next decade?

✥ In Michigan, GOP lawmakers have introduced a joint resolution to abolish the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission, which a majority of voters overwhelmingly support and resulted in fair maps this cycle.

✥ In Pennsylvania, conservative representatives are trying to pass a bill that would allow judicial gerrymandering, meaning they would be able to gerrymander the courts that held them accountable this cycle.

✥ In Alabama, after a federal district court blocked the state’s new congressional map because they found it likely violates the Voting Rights Act, the U.S. Supreme Court allowed the map to be used while litigation continues and opened the possibility for conservative justices to roll back voting rights.

Will you chip in so that we can build our infrastructure to fight against these attempts to dismantle democracy over the next decade?

A.G. Holder reminds us that “Republicans have proven time and again that they will do whatever it takes…to preserve partisan gerrymandering so they can lock in their own power.”

We’re seeing this all across the country with Republicans utilizing fringe legal theories, like the idea that state legislatures should have sole power over redistricting, and attempting to bypass independent redistricting commissions, overrule governors, and ignore state supreme courts that have upheld fair maps.

The 2021 redistricting process is barely over and conservatives are already putting plans together to manipulate the next cycle’s process. We can’t let them get away with it.
