WJC stands with Albania after massive earthquakes
On Tuesday, November 26th, coastal cities in Albania were struck by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake, the country’s worst in decades. Approximately 650 people are reported injured and at least 26 have been confirmed killed. Jews around the world were deeply saddened to learn of the terrible tragedy that has befallen Albania. WJC Mourns Passing of Henry Sobel z"l
For more than 30 years, Rabbi Sobel was recognized as an informal leader of the reform Jewish community in São Paulo. In 2011, at the Doha Interfaith meeting, Rabbi Sobel declared: “The consequences of globalization are yet to be calculated. Antisemitism at a glance: Ukraine
On November 25, 2019, Jews in Kyiv discovered this on their way to the synagogue: A monument to Jewish writer Sholem Aleichem vandalized with large red swastikas. And just two months earlier in September, two Holocaust memorials in Ukraine were also vandalized with swastikas.
