John — Lou Beasley raised her daughter in a home steeped in faith, teaching her daughter Cheri the value of hard work and a commitment to service. And Lou taught her that with those values of hard work and faith, Cheri could accomplish anything.
Cheri took those values to heart and dedicated her life to fighting for the people. After graduating from law school, she went to work as a public defender in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
But that was just the start. As a young mom, Cheri took the leap to run for office and give back more to her community. When her opponent said that a mom couldn’t win, she worked even harder to beat him by almost 30 points in her first campaign for district judge.
Cheri dedicated the next 20 years to fairness and justice for all North Carolinians. She went on to win statewide twice and became the first Black woman to serve as Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court.
And she’s still not done fighting to be a voice for the people and justice. Now, she’s running to be North Carolina’s next U.S. Senator — to flip this seat and deliver meaningful change and progress on the issues that matter most to our families. This is her toughest challenge yet, so she needs all of us behind her.
