The impact of this country’s gun violence crisis continues to surge at unprecedented levels. We’re outraged, saddened, but most importantly, motivated to keep fighting for and with our communities.
Earlier today, a white supremacist killed at least ten in a racially motivated shooting at a predominately Black supermarket in Buffalo, NY. This day will leave a community scarred for generations. All eyes will descend on Buffalo now but when the cameras move on, a community will be left in need of resources and services including victim counseling.
This week, we lost a pregnant woman fatally shot in east Baltimore on her ride home, witnessed another mass shooting in downtown Milwaukee and thousands of others impacted by other acts of gun violence.
The CDC recently announced that Black homicides have risen by 39% since the start of the pandemic. Despite the data and the loss, we are still fighting for our lives to be a priority, fighting for investment in solutions that work and fighting for policy change that we know can save our lives.
