Dear friend–

The impact of this country’s gun violence crisis continues to surge at unprecedented levels. We’re outraged, saddened, but most importantly, motivated to keep fighting for and with our communities.

Earlier today, a white supremacist killed at least ten in a racially motivated shooting at a predominately Black supermarket in Buffalo, NY. This day will leave a community scarred for generations. All eyes will descend on Buffalo now but when the cameras move on, a community will be left in need of resources and services including victim counseling.

This week, we lost a pregnant woman fatally shot in east Baltimore on her ride home, witnessed another mass shooting in downtown Milwaukee and thousands of others impacted by other acts of gun violence.

The CDC recently announced that Black homicides have risen by 39% since the start of the pandemic. Despite the data and the loss, we are still fighting for our lives to be a priority, fighting for investment in solutions that work and fighting for policy change that we know can save our lives.

Here are three ways you can help right now in this moment:

Demand New York Governor Take Action
Demand New York Legislators Take Action
Demand Congress Take Action

At the start of the year, we promised we would do everything in our power to raise awareness of the devastating impact of gun violence in Black and Brown communities. Thank you for standing with us as we continue this fight.

Sincerely,

Greg Jackson, Executive Director
