Hello,

When I retired from the U.S. Navy after nearly 4 decades of military service, I felt called to continue to serve my country in a meaningful way. But never did I expect running for the U.S. Senate that a Super PAC would run $1 million in TV ads attacking me for serving in the United States military.

They ran ads saying that because my service moved my family and I all over the country, that we weren’t Iowans anymore. They said because I was called upon to work for President Barack Obama that I somehow lost the ability to represent Iowa. Really?

It was offensive to everyone who signs up to serve our nation – an overseas teacher, a diplomat, a Peace Corps volunteer, or a military member. I was particularly appalled at what Gold Star families who gave the ultimate sacrifice must have thought.

Now I’m taking on Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, and Mitch McConnell’s Super PACs are already readying millions to run even more ridiculous ads against me. I’m a hard target for a GOP hit job, but I’m sure it is coming. We can and must keep the Senate blue and win this seat in Iowa.

We're facing a federally-manded FEC fundraising deadline at midnight on Wednesdaay, and if the Super PACs see even one shred of weakness in our fundraising report, they’ll pounce with attacks to try to bury us.

We’re just $112,934 away from our $400,000 goal and what we need to defeat Chuck Grassley and turn Iowa blue. But I’m counting on grassroots donors like you to give now if I’m going to hit this goal and have the resources I need to fight back against the incoming attacks:

Please, will you chip in $5 or more right now – every dollar you can afford before our federally-mandated FEC fundraising deadline – to help me defeat Chuck Grassley, turn Iowa blue, and protect our Democratic Senate majority? There couldn’t be a better or more important moment to chip in to my campaign if I’m going to win.

The Super PACs attacks are coming, but I know we can fend them off with your help today.

I’m so grateful that you are on this team,

Mike Franken, Vice Admiral, U.S. Navy (ret.)
