I knew I was queer when I was 10, but there was no one like me in rural Oklahoma, my childhood home. It wasn’t until after college — a Christian university where being out could lead to expulsion — that I vowed to live openly and proudly.
So, I’ve experienced the pain of the closet. And I’m sharing my “Story of Pride” with you because I never want an LGBTQ young person to endure that pain.
This June, Trevor is recognizing and celebrating “Stories of Pride.” We know that pride and self-acceptance can be a journey. And, thanks to the generous support of people like you, no matter where an LGBTQ young person is on that journey or in their story, The Trevor Project is here for them, 24/7/365.
Historically, the number of LGBTQ youth who reach out to Trevor increases every June. To some, it might feel like the whole world is celebrating while they’re struggling. Because of the wave of anti-LGBTQ bills sweeping through state legislatures and the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, we expect an even greater volume of contacts.
But thanks to people like you,
Friend,
we’ll only be a call, text, or chat away during Pride and every day of the year. We’ll advocate for them. We’ll work day and night to create a warm, welcoming world for them. We’ll tell them they are loved.
Every gift you make is an investment in that love, so, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for your compassion and generosity.
Proudly and warmly,
Amanda Ryan-Smith she/her/hers
Chief Development Officer
