Together we’re making a real impact in the lives of LGBTQ youth

With the new year approaching, many of us are reflecting upon the last 12 months. For LGBTQ youth, it’s been a year of resilience in the face of significant challenges from opposition groups, increased threats and violence, and direct attacks by our own government.

At GLSEN, we’re incredibly grateful to each of you who have stood with LGBTQ students, especially in the current climate, with so much at stake. This year we were proud to:

  • Host 3,000 students at youth summits—these students are the future leaders of the LGBTQ movement!
  • Train 10,000 educators—many of whom risk their jobs to serve as role models and confidants for LGBTQ students.
  • Organize 1,000,000 students around days of action—creating renewed momentum to carry our mission and our message through 2019 and into 2020.
  • Produce the 11th edition of our landmark national school climate survey—our flagship report on the experiences of LGBTQ youth in our nation’s schools.

Together we are building on a movement of people of good will across our country and, making measurable progress for the 8 million LGBTQ students in our country.

While we continue to face a challenging political climate, we are hopeful: There are so many more of us—those who support LGBTQ students across America—than there are of them.

The vast majority of public opinion is on our side and every day we hear from students with stories of acceptance, improved school cultures, successful advocacy efforts—and the difference that having a GSA or a supportive educator has made in their lives.

Those are the calls that remind us our work has a real impact in the lives of LGBTQ youth.

On their behalf—and from all of us at GLSEN—thank you for standing with us.
