Kerry Jackson Quoted in Associated Press on Newsom's New Minimum Wage Increase in January

Pacific Research Institute’s, Kerry Jackson, was quoted in the Associated Press on Governor Newsom’s $15.50 per hour minimum wage increase set to take place January of 2023:
The increase will impact smaller companies the most, which will see the minimum wage jump $1.50 in January. Kerry Jackson, a fellow at the conservative-leaning Pacific Research Institute’s Center for California Reform, said the increase could cause some employees at smaller companies to work fewer hours.
“It may be very painful for them,” he said.

Newton’s third law says that for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Politicians know this as the law of unintended consequences. They are well aware of its existence and have seen up close the damage it can do. Still, they make laws they know they shouldn’t.
The ban on single-use plastic bags in retail stores is one of them.

Much has been made of the decline of California over the last year, and not without reason—the Golden State lost ([link removed]) 173,000 residents last year. Worse yet, that’s probably an improvement: by one estimate ([link removed]) , 650,000 people left California in 2020. Indeed, as a result of population stagnation over the 2010s, we recently lost ([link removed]) a Congressional representative for the first time in state history.
