AIPAC Update
This Wednesday, a Palestinian-American journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, was tragically killed while reporting for Al Jazeera in the West Bank.
What we know:Israeli forces were operating in the West Bank town of Jenin to arrest wanted terrorist operatives, following a wave of terror attacks that have left 19 Israelis dead. Palestinian gunmen opened fire on Israeli forces, who returned fire.
Palestinians and news media have rushed to blame Israel.
Al Jazeera had contradictory reporting on its Arabic and English media outlets, even suggesting that Palestinians weren’t shooting at all despite video evidence to the contrary.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas ridiculously called it an "execution."
American and Israeli officials call for an investigation, while Palestinians reject cooperation.
Israel has established a special team to thoroughly investigate the situation.
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides and State Department Spokesperson Ned Price have publicly supported a thorough investigation, as have other U.S. officials.
The Palestinian Authority has rejected an Israeli request to conduct a joint probe or even allow Israel to analyze the evidence, instead choosing to use the situation to incite further violence against Israel.
The bottom line: It is an outrage that the Palestinian Authority refuses to share evidence into the death of Shireen Abu Akleh.
Blaming Israel before a thorough, objective investigation is pure propaganda.
America must continue to support Israel as it protects its people from terrorists.
The U.S. should also support Israel's efforts to conduct an investigation, encourage the PA to cooperate, and urge all sides to refrain from hurling unfounded accusations.
