But we’re still here and fighting

Wow, what a month it has been so far, John. From the leaked Supreme Court decision that would overturn Roe V. Wade to Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter and vow to reverse Trump’s ban on the platform, I’m ready to escape to a cabin in the woods and rewatch all five seasons of Selling Sunset. But alas, that’s not why I am here. We won’t stop fighting this nonsense, because at the end of the day, there is still hope. And joy. Reminder: joy is resistance. So let’s get to it!

Abortion Always

gif of abortion always in a heart

We’re still reeling from the leaked Supreme Court decision, but we’re not surprised. Our highest court has been politicized and weaponized by extremist politicians who have been working for decades to take away our rights. We’re worried about abortion access too, but until the Supreme Court makes a final decision, abortion is still legal. Abortions have always and will continue to happen, and we need to make that clear to our policymakers and demand that they uphold our fundamental rights to take care of our own bodies, families, and futures. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Show up in person to show your support for abortion. On May 14, Bans Off Our Bodies are leading rallies all over the country. Check out the nearest rally in your area.
  2. If you or someone you know needs abortion care, please visit www.abortionfinder.org or www.ineedana.com.
  3. Donate to abortion providers and abortion funds that ensure people get the care they want and need.

Celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month

pink, blue and purple graphic that says "Celebrating AANHPI Heritage Month"

May is Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month. As an Asian American myself, this month holds special meaning for me. This month is dedicated to celebrating the intricate and rich history, culture, and achievements of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders. We also take this month to recognize how far we still need to go, from fighting perpetual foreigner stereotypes and the model minority myth to the ongoing racist attacks against our community.

The AANHPI community is not a monolith and has over 50 ethnicities and over 100 languages and dialects. And with that comes many different experiences. AAPI Equal Pay Day fell in May, which sheds a light on how we need to look at the full picture of the AANHPI experience to understand the wage gap.

Keep a look out at our social media channels and website for more content on AANHPI Heritage month!

Let’s always end with joy.

When we’ve had weeks like the ones we’ve had lately, it’s important to remember the little things. So this week I’m taking in the joy of finally getting to the final level of the Nintendo Switch game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild after starting the game when it was released in 2017. It only took five years, but your girl finally did it.

And to end another newsletter, here’s some advice from my roommate’s cat Mike. Take a break from your screen and eat a snack because your mental and physical health are important!
