John,
Social Security Works PAC is proud to endorse Lucy McBath for Georgia’s 7th Congressional District!
Social Security Works PAC doesn’t usually get involved in primaries. But this is an exception. Because of redistricting, Rep. McBath and Rep. Carolyn Bourdeaux have been pushed into the same district, and the winner will be decided in a May 24th primary. There are BIG differences in their records.
Lucy McBath is a proven leader who will fight to protect and expand Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, while also working to lower the outrageous cost of prescription drugs. We can always count on her to stand up to Congressional Republicans, who are relentless in their attacks on the earned benefits our nation’s seniors have worked hard for and rely on.
Lucy’s opponent, Carolyn Bourdeaux, on the other hand, has shown that she can’t be trusted to protect Social Security and Medicare. When she first ran for Congress, we sent Bourdeaux a questionnaire about her views on our issues. In her responses, she advocated cutting Social Security through means-testing and pejoratively referred to the programs as ‘entitlements’.
Once in the House, Bourdeaux became one of a tiny handful of Democrats, along with Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, to co-sponsor a bill called the TRUST Act. This is a Republican concoction designed to create yet another ‘bipartisan commission’ to go behind closed doors and figure out how to cut Social Security and Medicare.
When Carolyn Bourdeaux said in an interview that she has ‘exactly the same plan as Lucy McBath,’ she isn’t telling you the truth. Lucy McBath is not a co-sponsor of the TRUST Act. Neither are the vast majority of House Democrats. Carolyn Bourdeaux is way out of the Democratic mainstream.
