If the past few years have taught us anything, it's that the Democrat and Republican visions for the future of this country could not be any more starkly different.
As Republicans continue to claw at abortion rights, make voting as difficult as possible, attack the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, and dog-whistle to the vilest, racist elements of society, it's clear they pose a real threat to our very democracy.
And if Republicans take back the House majority, we'll be forced to watch the attacks continue -- especially with Mike Garcia at the helm.
Make no mistake: Mike Garcia is no exception to the extreme attacks on our democracy. His claims of being a “moderate” aren't worth the paper they are printed on.
Garcia co-sponsored a bill that would ban abortion out right and even some forms of contraception and voted against certifying a democratically-held election. That's not a “moderate.”
With a Republican majority behind him, there's no telling how much more extreme he would go. Garcia in the majority is a scary proposition.
Would Majority Mike finally be able to pass his legislation to ban abortion nationally? Undermine the next democratic election? Would Majority Mike finally get his way and repeal the Affordable Care Act? Social Security? Food stamps? We cannot risk finding out.
