** LGBTQ people four times more likely than non-LGBTQ peers to choose a college away from home to find acceptance
------------------------------------------------------------
A new study from the Access to Higher Education Survey ([link removed] study is part of a series of reports that analyze data from the Access to Higher Education Survey) , conducted in collaboration with the Point Foundation ([link removed]) , found LGBTQ people were twice as likely as non-LGBTQ people to report having picked a college in a different city or state to get away from their families (33% vs. 14%, respectively).

Four times as many LGBTQ people (22%) as non-LGBTQ people (5%) chose to attend a college elsewhere in search of a more welcoming environment. In four-year institutions, graduate school, and community college, LGBTQ students were more likely than their non-LGBTQ peers to experience bullying and harassment.

** Accepting Applications for the 2022 Gleason/Kettel Summer Law Fellowship

The Williams Institute will award the Gleason/Kettel Summer Law Fellowship to provide a law student, or recent law school graduate, with a stipend of up to $5,000 to work in the field of sexual orientation and gender identity law and public policy.

The Gleason/Kettel Summer Law Fellowship is committed to inspiring law students to pursue careers in sexual orientation and gender identity law and public policy and to identifying the next generation of leaders committed to promoting rights and equity for the LGBT community. Through the fellowship, students gain experience and insight into the field and provide much-needed support to various organizations and scholars. Fellows must spend at least ten weeks at their placements. Students working at LGBTQ-focused organizations are eligible to apply.

** Lee Badgett hosts a session at the 2022 ILGA World Conference

Last week, Williams Institute Distinguished Scholar M.V. Lee Badgett co-hosted a session at the 2022 ILGA World Conference on LGBTQI Social and Economic Inclusion in Asia. Lee presented her research on the economic impact of LGBTQI discrimination on global economies to an audience that included Williams Institute Director of International Programs Ari Shaw, Research Policy Analyst Lauren Bouton, and Policy Analyst Rubeen Guardado.
