Dear John,
Thanksgiving Day will be Day 36 on strike for Cinder Bed Road strikers. These 120 members of ATU 689 have been on strike fighting for fair pay and benefits that simply matches the workers in the rest of the WMATA system. They are facing serious economic hardship over Thanksgiving and heading into the holiday season.
"I have over $2,200 in prescription medication. Transdev has cut off our health insurance. Right now, I have to decide which medications I'm going to take and
which I have to forgo."
James Duffy, Striking Operator at Cinder Bed Road
meeting with DC Council members and staff today
This Thanksgiving, please ask the members of your holiday table to share resources with striking workers so they can make ends meet. Giving to the strike fund is a way for each of us to support the fierce stand and economic risk these workers are taking to stop privatization of Metro and ensure good jobs for themselves and others. If you are part of a congregation, please consider taking a collection this weekend to support strikers as well.
And, if can't get enough of sharing a meal, why not make one for the Cinder Bed Strikers?
Sign up here, and make sure they're getting something other than pizza and donuts.
Wishing you and all who join us in struggle a good holiday and joyful community this week,
Elizabeth, Ina, Nikko and Sequnely
