Here’s a quick rundown of the past few years in Michigan:

In 2018, 61% of Michigan voters approved the constitutional amendment to create the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission (MICRC). Michiganders overwhelmingly supported this overhaul of the redistricting process to ensure they were represented fairly at the state and federal levesl.

In 2021, The MICRC held numerous hearings, in person and virtually, and sifted through over 500 public comments to create congressional and state legislative maps ON TIME despite incredible hurdles. A commission made up of everyday citizens, not politicians, drew maps that are fair according to national experts. They did all of this while under the pressure of conservative-backed litigation meant to undermine their work and their very existence.

In 2022, before we even have an election on these maps, Republicans in the legislature brought to power by the past gerrymandered maps are actively trying to abolish the MICRC which could end fair redistricting for Michiganders. Map manipulators are so desperate to hold onto power, they are willing to ignore the will of the people and repeal the amendment meant to protect the voice of voters.

They say to believe people when they show you who they are and we must believe Michigan map manipulators will do anything they can to overturn progress.
