Townhall ([link removed]) (11/22/19) column: "More than 200 people, including dozens of scientists, are in hiding right now in Germany. I am one of them. I can tell you that I am in Munich, but I can’t tell you my hotel. I can tell you that the scientists will meet on Friday and Saturday to share scientific knowledge, but I can’t tell you where. The meeting, in which scientists will present evidence contradicting an asserted climate crisis, was scheduled to be open to the public, but fascist climate thugs have forced us into hiding. The German government, rather than protecting scientists and free speech, has explicitly refused to protect scientists from the threat of violence...Seeking to shut down any scientific research and discussion that may endanger a purported justification for its anti-freedom political agenda, a climate activist group calling itself Offenes
Antikapitalistisches Klimatreffen München, which is reportedly affiliated with the terror group Antifa, threatened the EIKE meeting, calling on thugs in Germany to mobilize against the conference....A more just and civilized verdict would have been for the court to direct German police to protect scientists’ rights to free speech and academic freedom against fascist street thugs. But this is Germany and the street thugs share the same climate position as the German government. So, street thugs allied with the German government force free speech, academic freedom, and disfavored political views into hiding."

** "Democrats are now beholden to radical environmentalists who oppose fossil-fuel production of any kind. That will cost them come the 2020 elections. "

This is starting to sound like just a clever way to dodge family members asking how the job hunt is going over the holidays.

(11/26/19) reports: "Extinction Rebellion demonstrators won't be eating Thanksgiving dinner this year in protest of government inaction on climate change. The global hunger strike began last week, and two strikers from the Washington, D.C.-area coalition have extended their starvation to gain an audience with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). A press release from the group identified Eric Tien, 27, of Baltimore and Stephen Leas, 28, of Montgomery County, Md., as the strikers who are continuing to protest after not eating for nine days. Tien has been active on social media with photos and videos documenting his weight loss each day and sharing his thoughts on why he continues to strike even after losing 12 pounds from not eating. 'I talked to my parents yesterday, and they asked me to stop. My mom said she couldn't sleep. She was crying,' Tien said in a 55-second video posted on Twitter yesterday. 'But I feel like I can't. I feel like stopping now would betray billions of people all
around the world who are already suffering.'"

It's all about incentives.

(11/25/19) column: "My physician’s office called to have me come in right away. I had scheduled a flu shot for the following morning, but the office had been informed that PG&E would cut power within an hour. The refrigerator would warm and the serum would be spoiled before day’s end. That early October shutdown affected almost a million households or establishments in California and was repeated two weekends later.PG&E is in a difficult spot. The last thing the company wants is to ignite a fire that causes loss of life and property. Yet it is also aware that people rely on it for power, which is no mere convenience. With temperatures near or below freezing in some locations, failing to provide power for heat puts Californians at risk—particularly the elderly, the infirm and children. Businesses close, food spoils and drugs become unusable. What incentive would induce the company to choose correctly between bad alternatives and to invest in risk-reducing strategies like burying the power
lines? The solution is simple: Charge the company for any damage it causes, including those power outages. The current settlement, in which PG&E is liable for fire damage but not the cost of lost electricity, motivates it to cut power aggressively. Being penalized for the consequences of those outages would encourage the company to invest in technology, capital and personnel that reduce fire risk, rather than merely circumvent risk through blackouts. "

Make no mistake, this is not a permanent fix.

(11/1/19) reports: "National Grid said on Monday it would pay $7 million in compensation for a moratorium on new gas customers in Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island after the utility reached an agreement with the State of New York. National Grid will lift its moratorium for about two years. Its settlement includes a commitment to invest $8 million in energy efficiency programmes and an additional $20 million in clean energy projects, it said. The company had said in May it would not process new applications for natural gas services in its New York City and Long Island service area until Williams Cos Inc’s Northeast Supply Enhancement (NESE) pipeline received the permits it needs to proceed. Since then, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo threatened to revoke its certificate to operate its gas franchise in downstate New York, saying the utility had failed to provide 'adequate and reliable service.'"
