Last week, an unknown individual leaked a draft majority opinion from the U.S. Supreme Court that overturns Roe v. Wade and rightfully returns lawmaking power over abortion back to the states.

However, it’s important to remember that the court’s decision is neither conclusive nor final, and it won’t be until an official opinion is issued.

Following the leak, Justice Clarence Thomas said that the high court won’t be “bullied” into making a decision one way or the other.

Justice Thomas made the comments in a speech to the 11th Circuit Judicial Conference, which Reuters reports is a conference made of lawyers and judges from the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals, and federal district courts in Georgia, Florida and Alabama.

“[As a society] we are becoming addicted to wanting particular outcomes, not living with the outcomes we don’t like,” Thomas said in his speech. “We can’t be an institution that can be bullied into giving you just the outcomes you want. The events from earlier this week are a symptom of that.”

And for anyone who knows anything about Justice Thomas’ life, he certainly won’t be bullied into anything. And yet, bully and intimidate is exactly what the left will do.

The United States Senate has rejected an attempt to impose on the nation the most radical abortion regime the country has ever considered – far beyond even the damage that Roe v. Wade has wrought.

With 60 votes necessary to advance the sweeping abortion bill known as the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) to a final vote, only 49 senators voted in favor of the motion to do so on Wednesday, May 11.

In the equally divided Senate, only Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., crossed party lines to join Republicans, all of whom voted “no” on the motion.

Most considered the effort by Democrats to bring back the WHPA to be a futile one, since the bill, already passed in the House, had failed once before in a Senate vote held on February 28, by a vote of 46 – 48.

Senate Majority Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., brought the bill back for a second attempt in response to a draft majority opinion by Justice Samuel Alito in the highly anticipated Mississippi 15-week abortion ban case leaked to Politico, which reported on the draft on May 2.

Schumer said the second vote was for the purpose of showing Americans “where every single U.S. senator stands” on the issue of abortion, perhaps thinking he could pressure some senators to change their vote from their previous one.

The effort failed miserably.

New research indicates that a simple blood test may be able to identify babies at risk for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). The Australian study has been called “landmark” and a “world first.”

Lead researcher in the study, Dr. Carmel Harrington, was motivated by the loss of her own son to SIDS and has dedicated her career to SIDS research.

The study identifies an enzyme that is responsible in part for sending arousal messages to the brain and discovered the enzyme was “significantly lower” in babies who died from SIDS.

Dr. Harrington said, “This discovery has opened up the possibility for intervention and finally gives answers to parents who have lost their children so tragically. These families can now live with the knowledge that this was not their fault.”

SIDS is the sudden death of an otherwise healthy infant in the first year of life, usually while sleeping. It is the leading cause of death among infants under one year of age.

The medical community has suspected that SIDS was related to the inability of the infant’s brain to arouse the baby from sleep when experiencing difficulty breathing. Now it appears researchers may have found an answer to the lack of arousal.

In the study, researchers analyzed 722 dried blood spots of newborns as part of a newborn screening program and measured the level of the SIDS enzyme marker, Butyrylcholinesterase (BChE).
