Hi John,
American women are under attack.
Last week, a leaked document made it clear that SCOTUS may be poised to overturn Roe v. Wade very soon. While the leak itself is a threat to our justice system, this ruling would set women's rights back a half-century
The Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify Roe, passed out of the House in September and I was proud to vote YES. Until this week, the bill had been blocked from receiving a vote in the Senate. In order to make Senators take a public stand on abortion rights ahead of the midterms, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer pushed the vote. It failed 49-51.
In 2021, the Texas Legislature passed a "trigger law" allowing for $10,000 bounties to be collected on women and doctors reported for seeking or aiding in an abortion. By failing to codify Roe in the U.S. Senate, Republicans have effectively voted to allow Texas women and doctors to be hunted down for political and financial gain. To make matters worse, anyone who suffers from a miscarriage is now a potential target.
Majority Leader Schumer called the vote one of the "most important" senators will take, "not only this session, but in this century." He was right. It has never been more critical for American voters to elect pro-choice leaders everywhere, at every level of government.
Now, you know exactly how much your leaders really value life and liberty. Remember where they stand when you head to the polls in November.
Yours,
