John,
In the mid-eighties, I was selected to represent my home state of Mississippi at the Girl Scouts national conference.
But some folks in our Girl Scout troop were unhappy with me — a Black girl — carrying this honor. So they changed my flight reservation, hoping to leave me behind.
Do you think I let them stop me? Certainly not. I got on an airplane for the first time in my life and flew to Arizona by myself. I made it to the conference and represented my state with pride.
Here is what that moment taught me: There will be many people who make it harder for us to get where we want to go. But we cannot let them prevent us from reaching our destination.
Right now, our opponents are organizing against us, hoping we will come up short. But we are going to prove them wrong and we are going to fight back. That’s why I’m asking: if you’re ready for real leadership for Georgia, will you add your name to join my campaign right now? [link removed]
This is a moment in which we get to decide: are we going to let the other side leave us standing at the gate? Or will we show the strength of our support so we can win the governor’s seat and build a brighter, stronger future for Georgia?
Please add your name to become a part of this campaign. [link removed]
Thank you,
Stacey
