One of the reasons I launched this campaign to become Maryland’s next Democratic governor is my dedication to making life in our state more equitable. 

Growing up in an unstable household, I know how challenging life can be when families don’t have the basic resources to thrive. I lost my mother when I was 8 and lived with my father, who had undiagnosed Alzheimer’s, until he passed away when I was 12. 

In the midst of so much trauma and tragedy, it was public education, phenomenal public school teachers, mentors, and a school counselor that saved me and made sure I didn’t slip through the cracks.

I’ve experienced firsthand the life changing impact public institutions can have. Now, I’m running for governor because all Marylanders deserve the same kind of support from our public institutions.

Things like quality public transportation, stronger public schools, a living wage, and better support and access to capital for small businesses would make such a meaningful difference in lifting up those across the state who need a boost and benefit everyone in the process. As governor, I will ensure our state government is a transformative force for good in the lives of all Maryland students and families.
