Biden Cancels More Oil and Gas Leases as Fuel Prices Skyrocket <[link removed]> - -Whatever its claims and protestations about
“Putin’s price hike,” the Biden administration continues to show by its actions that it has no intention of making the reforms necessary to put downward pressure on the high energy prices Americans are facing, preferring instead to placate a loud but small group of radical environmentalists. Decisions like this erode confidence in the rule of law and discourage investment, reminding American energy producers and potential investors that the President believes their industries have no future in this country. Supreme Court Says No to Damages for ‘Emotional Distress’ in Civil Rights Case. Here’s Why That’s Good News. <[link removed]> - The leak of a draft opinion in a major abortion case,  Dobbs <[link removed]> v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization <[link removed]>, has swallowed much of the news cycle on the Supreme Court lately. That’s probably why the court’s 6-3 decision on the plain text of civil rights law may have gone largely unnoticed. In an opinion authored by Chief Justice John Roberts, the court held in Cummings v. Premier Rehab Keller <[link removed]> that damages for emotional distress are not recoverable in private actions to enforce the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 <[link removed]> or Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act <[link removed]>. Military Recruiting Faces Its Biggest Challenge in Years <[link removed]> - Since the transition to an <[link removed]> all-volunteer force in 1973 <[link removed]>, there have been years when the military services missed their recruiting goals. These include 1999, 2005, and 2018 when either the economy was booming or casualties in a conflict were perceived high. But according to military personnel officials at a Senate hearing <[link removed]> last week, 2022 is shaping up to be “arguably the most challenging recruiting
year” since 1973. The Army recently announced <[link removed]> it has been forced to cut its size by 12,000 soldiers because it cannot find enough volunteers to fill its ranks. Speaking to the challenge, Army Chief of Staff Gen. James McConville stated that they are in a “war for talent.” A war they are seemingly losing. But it isn’t just the Army that is struggling. The Air Force’s top recruiter warned <[link removed]> that the
“warning lights” were flashing for meeting their 2022 goals. The Navy’s top personnel officer stated <[link removed]> that while they may make their 2022 goals, they will do so only “by reducing the Delayed Entry Program from historic norms.” Even the Marine

​​Janet Yellen Is Wrong. Protecting Life Could Never Damage the Economy. <[link removed]> – Yellen said this “would have very damaging effects on the economy and would set women back decades.” She went on to argue that “abortion helped lead to increased labor force participation. It enabled many women to finish school, that increased their earning potential.” Her answer is bad ethics and bad economics. On the ethical side: It ignores the life and inherent value of the unborn child. Federal law (the Unborn Victims of Violence Act) and dozens of state laws recognize unborn children as human beings. But abortion advocates presume unborn children only deserve protections if their lives were planned and desired. But even if we reduce the matter to economics, Yellen’s analysis focuses on a tiny speck of a much larger picture. Her claim lacks what Henry Hazlitt called the “art of economics” in his classic “Economics in One Lesson <[link removed]>.” “The art of economics consists in looking not merely at the
