John,
Domestic workers are some of the most INVISIBLE workers today. I know it all too well, because my abuelita was one of them.
For more than 70 years she cared for countless families, as well as her own, with determination and dignity.
For this thankless work these incredible women -- and statistically it's almost always women -- also face incredible obstacles.
Which is why today is a perfect moment to SAY THANK YOU and make those words meaningful.
Show your thanks by asking your Member of Congress to support and co-sponsor the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights so domestic workers get the respect and thanks they deserve every day.
Domestic workers continue to be on the front lines to end family separation and detention, secure fair standards and demand protections from sexual harassment and discrimination in all workplaces, and engage women of color as full and equal citizens in our democracy.
But every time they return to work it's on a different playing field to almost every other worker.
Domestic workers are EXCLUDED from federal discrimination protections, and that allows employers to sexually harass or fire domestic workers on the spot, with little to no legal consequences.
Today, one way we can show our thanks for the work domestic workers do every day, is to stand in solidarity and join the fight to change this.
Send a letter to your Member of Congress asking them to support and co-sponsor the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights.
Today and every day we say 'thank you' to our worker leader sisters for organizing to pass the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights and paving the way to a future where all work is respected, whether our workplace is an office or someone else's home.
And today and every day: thanks for all you do,
Mariana Viturro, Deputy Director
