Dear John,
Welcome to the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) listserv! You have been added to our list because you signed a petition, signed up on our website, gave a gift of support, or attended an event we held.
CSGV’s guiding principle is simple: We believe that all Americans have a right to live free from gun violence. Through this list, we mobilize our supporters to call out NRA leaders and other high-profile pro-gun extremists, pressure corporations to disassociate from the gun lobby, and most importantly, advocate for commonsense, lifesaving policies.
One such policy is the Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO). This law allows family members and law enforcement to temporarily remove firearms from loved ones in crisis. California became the first state to pass this law in September 2014, and, to date, 7 other states have passed similar laws. Florida, Vermont, and Maryland passed ERPO laws in the months following the Parkland, Florida shooting in February of 2018. Based on the ERPO's success, legislators have introduced similar policies in more than 20 states.
Despite obstacles at the federal level, our state-focused strategy is working. Thanks to your support, we can continue to pursue our evidence-based approach to gun violence prevention and bring extreme risk laws to all 50 states.
