With super PACs already reserving TV ad time, we know this race will get expensive.
John—our race could be one of the most expensive House races of 2022. Here’s why:
- The LA media market is the second most expensive in the country. In fact, it’s 16x more expensive to run a TV ad here in the LA media market than in states like Iowa (where Katie grew up)—a fact that blew Katie’s mind when she first heard it.
- Orange County is a media desert. That means we have very few local papers. Traditionally, candidates depend on good local news coverage to get their message across to voters. But without much local coverage, we have to invest more heavily in other (expensive) methods of reaching voters—advertising online, on TV, and over the radio.
- Super PACs and dark money groups have already invested in this race. One of the Republicans' biggest PACs just reserved nearly $2 million worth of TV ads here in CA-47–and this is just the beginning. On top of that, a conservative group has already run online ads attacking Katie.
- In order to win, Katie will have to persuade swing voters. And that’s expensive. It’s said that it takes 12 mail pieces to persuade one voter. Our district is made up of a third Republicans, a third Democrats, and a third independent voters—so winning those swing votes is key.
Can you chip in today so that we have the resources to compete in this particularly expensive race?
