I’m emailing to talk about the Supreme Court’s looming decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. I need you to read every word. Here’s why:

The leaked draft opinion to overturn Roe was a wake-up call – but Democrats’ power at the federal level is limited.

I’ve vowed to do everything I can to fight back against this painful impending decision – one that will put countless lives in danger and strip us of our bodily autonomy – but with razor-thin majorities and a conniving GOP countering Democrats’ every move, it may not be enough in this critical moment.

The power to codify Roe isn’t solely in the hands of Congress. State Democrats are leading the charge to codify abortion protections in 16 states – and if we continue to build our Democratic power in statehouses this November, more could follow. But if we fail, state Republicans will be able to do the opposite – effectively banning abortion access for millions.

State legislatures are poised to become the battleground for abortion rights, but they urgently need our support. The Court’s looming decision makes it more important than ever that we give state Democrats the resources they need to secure victories in this year’s midterm elections.

The significance of overturning Roe cannot be overstated. Countless lives will be put at risk as a direct consequence of five Justices’ choice to deny us the right to make decisions about our own bodies – ignoring nearly 50 years of precedent to push their ultra-conservative agenda.

Everyone deserves the right to make their own decisions about their body and no one should ever be forced to put their body in a life-or-death situation without their consent.

With stronger majorities and more Democratic legislators in our statehouses, we can codify Roe into law across dozens more states. By building our Democratic power in state legislatures, we can fight back against this unconscionable attack on our right to choose.

But in order to secure victories this November, we need to mobilize now and channel our outrage into immediate action. Will you rush $7, $25 or whatever you can afford to elect state Democrats to fight back against GOP attacks on our reproductive freedoms?
