With Immense Gratitude

With the holidays upon us, I wanted to briefly reflect on your tremendous support and what it has allowed us to accomplish this year.

Earlier this month, PFAW celebrated truly historic wins in the Virginia elections (flipping the state legislature!), which will allow for some long overdue progressive reforms to be implemented in the next legislative session. We also helped elect more than 100 young progressives across the country with our Next Up Victory Fund program – building a deep bench of young elected officials in local and state office.

With your support, we continue to push back against the Far Right by exposing their hate and bigotry and demonstrating that progressive and inclusive policies can and do win the hearts and minds of voters across the country.

As we continue preparations and planning for 2020, PFAW is strengthened by the support and advocacy of members like you and we deeply appreciate your efforts.

PFAW's accomplishments are indeed your own.

I'm forever grateful – thank you.

A new PFAW Right Wing Watch report on voter suppression reveals the grand sweep of the right-wing national project to suppress the hard-won right to vote of Americans across the country – a project that accelerated as backlash to the outcome of the 2008 presidential election. Voter enthusiasm surged that year as Barack Obama campaigned to become our country’s first African American president. His efforts paid off – and the electorate that year set new records for being the largest and most racially and ethnically diverse in U.S. history.

The report, written by journalist Bob Moser, details the development and evolution of the GOP’s voter suppression efforts in the Trump era, and the ways that progressive voting rights activists are fighting back.

Trump Republicans' Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Election Day

PFAW is thrilled to celebrate the big progressive wins earlier this month in Virginia with progressives and activists, where PFAW pulled out all the stops to FLIP both chambers of Virginia’s General Assembly. Now Democrats control the state’s legislature for the first time in nearly a quarter century paving the way for a new era of progressive policies and reforms that will benefit the people of Virginia and the country as a whole. Virginia is now the shining example of what can happen in the South with sustained investment and work.

The victories don't start and end with Virginia – Democrats scored victories across the country in hard-fought statewide races that indicates a clear eagerness of the American electorate to repudiate Trump Republicans and the extreme agenda and hate that has fueled their rise to power.

More Trump Judges on the Federal Bench: A Cause for Alarm, Not Celebration

Earlier this month, President Trump celebrated the confirmation of his federal judicial nominees as a “milestone” during a press event at the White House. Since he took office, Trump has appointed 43 ultra-conservative judges to lifetime positions on our federal appellate courts. But this is not a milestone to celebrate, and Americans should be alarmed rather than exuberant. In just over two years, Trump’s appeals court judges have severely harmed the rights and jeopardized the health and safety of millions of us.
