Friend,
Yesterday, once again (as we predicted), the Women’s Health Protection Act failed to pass.
Once again, anti-choice obstructionists like Mitch McConnell and Joe Manchin choose cruelty and control over compassion, denying millions of people the right to an abortion and foundational reproductive freedom.
We knew this would happen. We’ve been here before.
Without the votes needed in the Senate, and one party hell-bent on overturning our civil rights, there was no way to get this bill passed with the filibuster still intact as it exists today.
And since they keep failing, why do we keep looking to Congress or the Courts to save us?
Friend, we need to focus on supporting down-ballot champions across the country to protect the right to an abortion in state legislatures, city councils, and local criminal legal system offices.
Ahead of so many critical primaries, help us further ramp up our coaching and endorsement resources for state and local prochoice champions across the country with your first gift to #VOTEPROCHOICE today.
Yesterday proved what we already knew: Congress cannot be counted on to meet this moment.
With more than 100,000 elections on the ballot in November, it’s time that we stop letting these 535 people take up all the oxygen and focus on saving ourselves through strategic political action.
We must refocus our energy and resources to elect state and local candidates who will fight to restore our reproductive freedom.
In solidarity,
Heidi L. Sieck
