Yesterday, the Interior Department announced that three oil and gas lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and off the coast of Alaska have been cancelled! This is a major victory in the fight to end federal oil and gas drilling!
While this is a definitive win, Food & Water Watch will keep fighting until President Biden uses his executive authority to halt drilling and fracking on ALL public lands and waters!

Back in February 2020, then-candidate Joe Biden told New Hampshire voters his position on fracking for oil and gas on federal lands:
“And by the way, no more drilling on federal lands, period.”
But just a few weeks ago, President Biden announced plans, yet again, to open even more public land to drilling. The hypocrisy is glaring.
The president’s plan for continued drilling only locks us into decades more air and water pollution, rapidly rising greenhouse gas emissions, and the destruction of public lands. We can’t – and we won’t – let this stand, especially at a time when the climate crisis demands that we rapidly move off fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy.
President Biden is currently on track to approve more drilling on public lands than any president since George W. Bush. Food & Water Watch will keep fighting until President Biden uses his executive authority to end the era of fossil fuels – and that means halting drilling and fracking on federal lands!
Food & Water Watch has been leading the fight to ban fracking on public lands for years, working with allies to protect cherished places like the Arctic and Chaco Canyon. In the past few months, we delivered over 8,500 comments to the Bureau of Land Management demanding a long-term plan to end drilling in the Greater Chaco region.
Together we can protect public lands from fossil fuel extraction. But we need you with us, John. We must push for the climate future we all deserve: a future free from reckless and dangerous drilling.
