Opponents of gun reform always say “we have so many laws already on the books. Why not just enforce them?” That starts with a permanent leader for the nation’s gun enforcement agency: ATF.
And the Senate has an opportunity to approve the first permanent director in nearly 10 years if they act now.
Here’s what is at stake in this particular fight. Earlier this month, we shared with you Brady’s report that 6 gun stores in Pennsylvania sell 57% of the tracked crime guns. ATF agents rarely inspect any of these stores, but when they are, they often find violations of the law. This includes failure to run background checks for every applicable sale or other practices that make it even easier for illegal guns to be trafficked in our communities. With a strong leader at the ATF, we can change that.
