John, we’re disappointed, but not surprised.
Yesterday, the Senate failed to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act.
Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called to hold this vote after news broke that the Supreme Court plans to overturn Roe v. Wade in the coming weeks. But we knew leading up to this vote that there was realistically no chance of passing the Women’s Health Protection Act as long as the GOP has the power to filibuster. It’s why everything from a $15 minimum wage to basic voter protections has been blocked over and over again in the Senate.
We’re not going to sugarcoat this, John: These are immense challenges we’re facing. But there is too much on the line to stop our fight here.
We need to keep growing momentum to abolish the filibuster. We need to elect more leaders to Congress who will fight to help pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and defeat those who stand in its way. And we need to continue sharing our stories about why receiving abortion care is a fundamental human right.
