John, it’s Bernie Sanders.

Right now, super PACs and powerful special interest groups are spending a huge amount of money to defeat strong, progressive women of color running for Congress all across the country — including over $1 million on ads to defeat Nida Allam in North Carolina's 4th district.

Nida Allam (NC-04) is facing a primary election on May 17. She is a long-time member of our movement, and served as a political director on our 2016 campaign for president.

In 2020, Nida ran an unprecedented progressive campaign for Durham County Commissioner, where she became the first Muslim woman elected to public office in North Carolina. As Durham County Commissioner, Nida voted to raise the minimum wage for county employees to $15 per hour and led the charge to provide property tax relief for low-income people. Now she is ready to fight for a progressive agenda in Congress.

Nida’s election is just 5 days away, and I know she can take on these super PACs and win her election — so long as our grassroots progressive movement is all in this together. That's why I'm asking:

Will you make a contribution — of $27 or whatever you can — to DFA and Nida Allam's campaign for Congress? With Election Day coming up very soon on May 17, there has never been a more important time to show you stand with Nida.

Nida understands the need for an agenda that prioritizes the needs of working people — that means Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and a living wage. It means fighting for economic justice, racial justice, social justice, environmental justice, and finally creating a government that works for all of us, not just the one percent.

Right now, Nida is counting on our movement to help her fund the kind of grassroots campaign that can win this election. But the truth is that no one — not Nida, not Bernie Sanders, or anyone else — can do it alone.

When Nida wins this race and we send a fighter for the progressive movement to Congress, it will be because all of us came together to make it happen.

Thank you for adding your contribution today if you can.

In solidarity,

Bernie Sanders
