As you know, the pot industry, its lobbyists, and pro-weed lawmakers are willing to do anything to pass bills to further the addiction-for-profit model. They have tried to attach such bills to any and every must pass bill.
Now, they are staking out a new path, by attaching the SAFE Banking Act — a bill to allow the pot industry access to the U.S. financial system and billions of dollars in institutional investment from the likes of Big Tobacco, Big Alcohol, and Big Pharma — to the America COMPETES Act.
Up until now, most bills that the SAFE Banking Act has been attached to in the House have not been passed into law, but this is being negotiated between House and Senate conferees RIGHT NOW.
Democratic and Republican leadership in the Senate have said this bill should not pass, but we can't take anything for granted. This is why it is vital you take action now to alert your representatives and senators to this shady action by the pot lobby and demand any such amendment be removed.
The SAFE Banking Act would leave banks out of compliance with federal law, while opening the doors to Wall Street investment into the marijuana industry and put the pedal to the metal in the creation of the next Big Tobacco. All without any public health and safety guardrails.
