John — The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF) is the only government agency responsible for enforcing federal gun laws, preventing illegal gun trafficking, and overseeing the gun industry. It has not had a permanent director since 2015. That is unacceptable.

The Biden Administration has nominated the eminently qualified Steven Dettelbach, a former-U.S. Attorney and career prosecutor at the Department of Justice who has worked closely with the ATF as well as other law enforcement agencies to fight violent crime, domestic violent extremism, and more.

We need a strong leader in charge of the ATF to ensure that our existing gun laws are implemented, enforced, and upheld. But the gun lobby and the elected officials in its pocket are intent on maintaining a weakened ATF to protect gun industry profits. They are peddling lies to spread fear and try to block Dettelbach’s nomination.
