Friend, yesterday I walked off the Senate floor after Republicans unanimously blocked the Women’s Health Protection Act , frustrated but determined to not give up our fight to protect the fundamental right to an abortion.

With a Supreme Court decision looming on Roe v. Wade in a matter of weeks, we need to do everything we can to ensure Americans’ right to make their own health care decisions by passing legislation that protects Roe and access to abortion care.

But yesterday’s vote failed because of unanimous Republican opposition, and if that isn’t appalling enough, state Republican legislatures across the country are acting quickly to pass legislation to ban and even criminalize abortions. And Congressional Republicans are already maneuvering to advance a nationwide ban.

The path to protecting abortion rights lies in not only defending, but expanding our Democratic Senate majority so we have the votes to protect abortion rights nationwide.

Should the Supreme Court decide to overturn Roe , it would trigger abortion bans in states across the country. But in New Jersey and many other states, Democrats are working to protect this fundamental right — and we need to keep and expand our Senate majority to protect the right to choose nationwide.

If we keep the Senate, we can prevent Republicans from enacting a nationwide abortion ban, and fight back to guarantee that no matter where you live in this country, you are entitled to the right to make your own health care decisions.
