Hi John,
Yesterday, I released my budget proposal for the 2022-2023 fiscal year, and it’s a strong plan that builds on our success in North Carolina.
In our budget, we prioritize investment in workforce training so folks can access high-paying jobs, expanding access to quality health care, investment in infrastructure development, and keeping our air and drinking water clean. This budget also gives our state another opportunity to raise public school teacher pay and finally expand Medicaid coverage.
Here are a few highlights from our budget:
- Commits to A Healthier North Carolina by proposing a Medicaid expansion to provide access to affordable health care coverage to more than 600,000 North Carolinians who need it
- Empowers Safe, Successful Communities by supporting first-time homebuyers and expanding affordable housing options
- Ensures a Healthy, Resilient NC by advancing clean energy and energy efficiency
- Provides a Sound Basic Education for All Students by investing in educator pay, Pre-K programs, and high-quality childcare
- Creates Stronger Workforce for Better Paying Jobs by expanding work-based learning grants, increasing job training opportunities, and supporting small businesses

John, we have already done a great deal to help North Carolina families recover from the worst days of the pandemic, but there’s still more work to do. We must make health care and childcare affordable and accessible. We must create jobs and opportunity by providing necessary skills training. And we must ensure that our students have the quality education they deserve.
I believe that our budget goes a long way to achieving those goals, and I will push the legislature to support it. An important part of leveraging good investments for our state is maintaining the Governor’s veto power, and your help with that continues to be critical.
