Friend,
Yesterday, I led chants of “my body, my decision” with a group of House Democrats who walked to the Senate demanding Senators vote to uphold our abortion rights.
But Sen. Manchin joined the GOP to block federal abortion rights legislation. The Senate failed to protect our rights—which are supported by the vast majority of people in this country.
Now it’s on us to turn up the pressure. We have to make it absolutely clear that the majority of Americans support safe, legal, and accessible abortion care. We won't let the right-wing take away our fundamental right to control our bodies.
Please sign up now to rally in your community this Saturday, May 14, for the Bans Off Our Bodies Day of Action for Abortion Rights.
Remember: The Senate is undemocratic and over-represents a minority of conservatives. And the Supreme Court consists of 9 unelected people, many of whom were appointed by presidents who lost the popular vote.
We can’t let a small group override the rights and the will of hundreds of millions of people.
Unfortunately, we know what will happen if the Supreme Court decides to overturn Roe v. Wade next month, because the right to abortions has been attacked piecemeal across the country for decades.
In half the states, people providing and seeking abortions, or even navigating miscarriages, may be criminalized. Many people will need to cross huge swaths of the country to get abortion care, and many will not be able to do so. Many more people will die in pregnancy and childbirth, particularly Black women and children.
At the same time, a handful of obstructionist Democrats and the GOP have blocked votes to expand healthcare, childcare, and public services—making it clear that they don’t care about what happens to parents, or to babies after they’re born.
We’ve got to show up for each other in this moment, and build the society we need.
By joining together in our communities this Saturday and beyond, we can keep demonstrating the overwhelming popularity of abortion access. We’ve got to fight for our rights.
Can you join Saturday’s national mobilization to protect abortion access? Sign up to join a local action near you on May 14.
In solidarity,
Rashida
