John: my opponent, Sen. Chuck Grassley, helped block a bill to codify Roe v. Wade into law – saying the issue of reproductive freedom is a "waste of time." With the U.S. Supreme Court indicating it will overturn abortion rights, tens of millions of Americans could see their reproductive freedom disappear without action from Congress.

Sen. Grassley is on the cusp of seeing his life's work realized: to control the bodily autonomy of women. As a 33-year-old woman who stood on the floor of the Iowa House three dang times to defend my fundamental rights, I will NOT stand for it – and I want Sen. Grassley to hear this: protecting abortion rights is not a waste of time and the vast majority of Americans agree. Senator, the health and wellbeing of women is at risk because of you. Women's lives are at risk because of you. 

The GOP's actions are infuriating and incredibly dangerous – but this is just the start. Republican senators are already strategizing to pass a nationwide six-week ban on abortion. If Mitch McConnell is in charge of the Senate, Republicans will finally have their chance to pass a radical abortion ban that affects every. single. state. We MUST fight back. That means defeating GOP extremists like Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), expanding our Senate majority and codifying Roe v. Wade into law for future generations.

If we win here in Iowa, Democrats will be virtually guaranteed to maintain our Senate majority – and I promise you that I will be the 50th vote we need to end the filibuster and pass this legislation.
