There is a very important question that every member aspiring to Republican Party leadership in Washington has to ask themselves.

Am I willing to lie to advance?

Am I willing to support a party leader in Donald Trump, who I know to be dishonest, unethical and unpatriotic?

Am I willing to undermine the institutions of our democracy?

If the answer to these questions is “yes,” there is a place for you in GOP leadership. Just look at Kevin McCarthy. He was caught lying about his reaction to the January 6th attack on the Capitol and Trump’s role in inciting the mob.

But this wasn’t the scandal. Anyone who has worked with or observed McCarthy could not have been surprised by a mere falsehood.

The scandal is that his lies are a necessary prerequisite to being a part of GOP leadership. Tell the truth and you’re out. Peddle the Big Lie and you’re in. It’s as simple and as terrible as that.

Trump’s GOP is in the grips of the most anti-truth, anti-democratic cult of personality our country has ever seen.

As the midterms approach, Republicans will only become more power hungry, and more corrupt. All in an attempt to destroy Joe Biden and hurt Democrats. That’s a danger to our democracy, and it’s why I ask:
