2023 Young Scholars Program Call for Proposals

The Foundation for Child Development is accepting proposals for its 2023 Young Scholars Program (YSP). YSP supports scholarship for early-career researchers. The program funds implementation research that is policy- and practice-relevant, and that examines the preparation, competency, compensation, well-being, and ongoing professional learning of the early care and education (ECE) workforce. Research awards are up to $225,000 for primary research and up to $180,000 for secondary data analysis.

Letter of Intent Deadline: Thursday, June 9, 2022

Research Focus
All proposed research must have primary questions that are relevant to the ECE workforce. All proposed research questions must support scientific inquiry into the implementation of specific ECE programs, policies, or practices. Implementation research provides the opportunity to engage in meaningful exploration of what works (or not), for whom, and under what conditions using a variety of methodological approaches and research designs. The Foundation highly recommends reviewing Getting it Right: Using Implementation Research to Improve Outcomes in Early Care and Education, as it explains the Foundation’s perspective on the value of implementation research and provides guidance on various implementation research approaches and methods. The Foundation also recommends reviewing its companion piece, Getting it Right: The Conversation Guide for Preparing the Next Generation of Implementation Researchers. Finally, all supported research must have a clear connection to policies and practices that have the potential to result in a positive impact on the ECE workforce and on the young children in YSP’s priority populations.

Bank Street is Launching its Early Childhood Policy Fellowship
Application Deadline: Monday, June 6th

Applications are open for the Early Childhood Policy Fellowship at Bank Street College. This year-long remote cohort program will begin in September 2022. The fellowship will engage mid-career early childhood leaders as they meet the challenges and opportunities of the current moment to design more equitable, high-quality early childhood systems. The fellowship is designed to support fellows personally and professionally, prioritizing leaders who are Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), recognizing they have been historically excluded from policy leadership positions.

Fellows will propose a capstone project that leverages their role to drive sustainable change. Program staff and field leaders will provide ongoing coaching to fellows throughout the year to support them as they apply learning from the program to their work and capstone project.

The Early Childhood Policy Fellowship will provide fellows with:
  • A curriculum focused on developing leadership skills, navigating the complexities of early childhood policy work, and advocating for equitable, high-quality early care systems

  • Coaching from current leaders in the field to guide implementation of new initiatives and manage large-scale change

  • Time and space to reflect and grow professionally alongside a cohort of other emerging leaders

Bank Street will host an information session on May 13th at 12 pm ETMay 17th at 5 pm ET, or May 25th at 10 am ET.

If you have questions, contact Demetria Joyce.
