John,
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, President Biden has extended the pause on student debt payments three times. Despite what naysayers have suggested, the world has not imploded and our economy hasn’t tanked since payments were paused at the beginning of 2020.
Not only is canceling student debt overwhelmingly popular with the American people, it is also the right thing to do as it will help to financially liberate over 43 million Americans.
Historically, higher education has been a pathway to economic mobility, but skyrocketing college costs and stagnant wages over the last few decades have made paying off student loans next to impossible.
From working-class families to borrowers without degrees, folks across our country have been crushed by the high costs of student loan repayment for too long. President Biden has the authority to sign an executive order canceling student debt, and thanks to the efforts of Mondaire and his colleagues, he’s considering doing it.
As we look for solutions to help families navigate inflation and stagnant wages — canceling student loans is a simple way to stimulate our economy by allowing folks the opportunity to own a home, start a business, or spend money on everyday necessities.
Everyone deserves a quality education in this country without having tens of thousands of dollars of crushing debt. We need to show the White House there is support for this policy to strengthen the middle-class.
Thank you for making your voice heard.
