I'm excited to officially reach out to you, John. Let me introduce myself: my name is Mitra, and I'm NIAC Action's new Senior Political Advisor. In this role, I will be directly contributing to NIAC Action's mission of building political power for Iranian Americans and creating a seat at the table to discuss the issues that impact our families, friends, and loved ones most.
As a bi-racial Iranian American born and raised in Minnesota, I understand the barriers our community still faces in building political power and bringing representation across all levels of government. That's why I've worked directly in my community to bring change – as a social studies teacher, a community and labor organizer, a policy and press aide on Capitol Hill, and eventually winning an election for office. Now, I have the honor of serving on St. Paul, Minnesota's City Council.
With all of the knowledge I've gained, I'm honored to have the opportunity to support NIAC Action's advocacy campaigns and endorsed candidates as they go through the electoral process. When we build representation in the electorate, Iranian Americans gain more power and visibility, and so do the issues that matter most to us.
