Dear John
The Government has published its plan in the Queen’s
Speech
And they think you have too many rights
This week’s Queen’s Speech
showed us the Government is planning to use this Parliament to push
through even more terrifying, authoritarian legislation. Legislation
that will weaken our rights and strengthen their power to act without
scrutiny.
Set down a marker with your MP
today. Let them know that you are paying attention and this matters to
you.
The British Bill of Rights
would replace the Human Rights Act and looks set to diminish rather
than enhance ordinary people’s rights. While the text of the Bill has
not yet been released, the Government consultation on the Bill implies
they believe Britons have too many rights, with the consultation
complaining about the ‘rights culture’ we have in the UK.
As well as clamping down on
individual rights, this Bill looks set to take power away from
individuals seeking to challenge public bodies or Government decisions
through the courts.
And the proposed Brexit
Freedoms Bill seems designed not to actually fix the problems Brexit
has caused but to give the Government extraordinary new powers to
unilaterally repeal and change retained EU legislation without
parliamentary scrutiny.
We need to tackle this
legislation before it even enters Parliament and make sure MPs know
the public doesn’t support it. MPs have to be told that they must
challenge the Government’s authoritarianism before they face their
constituents at the next election.
So email your MP today to let
them know that you know what the Government has planned - and that you
need them to challenge it.
It takes less than two minutes
to use our tool to send a bespoke message to your MP. So click the
button above and start taking a stand before the Government is
expecting you to.
Best wishes,
