| We are also thrilled to announce our keynote speaker for the 5th Annual Obama Gala: Congresswoman Grace Meng |
Grace Meng represents New York’s 6th Congressional District located in Queens, New York. She was born and raised in Queens as the daughter of immigrants and has never forgotten where she came from or who she fights for.
As a child growing up in the most diverse county in America, Grace quickly came to believe that every person deserves a seat at the table. Whether young or old, rich or poor, she believes every voice deserves to be heard. That conviction prompted Grace to begin her professional career as a public interest lawyer and serve in the New York State Assembly before running for Congress.
In Congress, Grace has been ranked the 8th most-effective legislator in the Democratic Party (according to the Center for Effective Lawmaking), while one of the youngest Democrats in Congress. Grace continues to advocate for inclusive policies for often overlooked communities. She serves on the powerful House Appropriations Committee, responsible for funding every federal agency, program, and project. Grace fights for federal programs that benefit women and children, and even co-founded the Bipartisan Congressional Kids’ Safety Caucus. She is a leading voice on food safety, clean water, and consumer protection for families.

CO Legislature Ends Today
|
During the 2022 legislative session, Democrats delivered for Coloradans by making it easier for working families to save money, funding affordable housing, expanding mental health services, improving education, tackling climate change, and investing in public safety.
The following is a statement from Colorado Democratic Party Chair, Morgan Carroll: “I want to congratulate our Democratic legislators who put in hours of work and heart into this session to create bills that will improve the lives of every Coloradan. In contrast, the Republicans did everything to stall, delay, and obstruct getting work done for the people of Colorado. Republicans can’t focus on key economic struggles facing Coloradans because they are obsessed with fringe issues like criminalizing abortion. Their conduct during this session has been shameful.” To see all the bills passed here! |

Rep. Ortiz's lifetime of service is defined by fighting for Equity of Opportunities. Whether he was helping Katrina evacuees resettle, creating educational exchanges and economic opportunities in his work at the City of Houston Mayor’s Office of International Affairs and Development, fighting for improved care and rehabilitation for service members and veterans suffering from spinal cord injuries, or advocating and lobbying for veterans and those with disabilities at the Colorado State Capitol; his servant leadership has been and is founded in fighting for that Equity of Opportunities for all.
Representative Ortiz is in a tough election this year and his seat is pivotal to keeping our majority in the legislature.
