Dear John,

The Democratic Republic of the Congo, named after the mighty Congo River that snakes through the country, has been blessed by God with the most beautiful landscape and abundant natural resources. Sadly, when we think of the DRC, we think of war, trauma and pain. We think of the millions of lives that have been lost and thousands of broken families.

At AE we thrive to place God-fearing locals in our teams, who understand the people, are committed to long term ministry, who can partner and strengthen the local church and can work out how best to bring God to the people.

Mark 16:15 “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation.”

Leonard Mupalanga Kiswangi, AE Team Leader in the DRC, is just such a man.

The Kiswangi family

Leonard joined AE DRC as a volunteer in charge of communication in 1994. The first AE DRC team leader, the latePastor Babaka, played an important role as he needed to host the AE founder Michael Cassidy in Kinshasa. Then in 2002, Leonard was invited to participate in the youth rally organized to celebrate the 40th anniversary of AE in Pietermaritzburg in South Africa. Then in 2008, as the need became so obvious to have a National team leader to take the office forward, he accepted the calling, and thus became the AE DRC team leader.

Married to Antoinette, they have three Children and three grandchildren. Antoinette has worked for AE DRC since the early years of its existence.

Leonard says The AE DRC team has journeyed through tough times, but that God has always been very gracious to his small team.

OPERATION FIELDS

1.Trauma healing training and initiatives facilitation

Since many come from traumatizing backgrounds and live in a very anxious environment, the team witness lots of vulnerable and traumatised groups in the community. Trained under the facilitation of African Enterprise International, (AEI), by the trainers from the Trauma Healing Institute in partnership with the American Bible Society, the team have embarked on the training of Church leaders to empower them with the basic principles in the very affected areas we partner with.

Currently, there are a couple of groups in the DRC and one in Luanda Angola. AE DRC have been offered the opportunity to provide this trauma-healing training in Bible schools and seminary where the senior students in Theology are all empowered. The Angolan group is currently translating the training manual in Portuguese for further group trainings.

2.CTG training (Community Transformational Groups)

The dire promiscuity and poverty in some of the areas has motivated the team to start a couple of single mothers sewing trainings and a dozen of the graduates from such programs are now undertaking a small sewing business to take care of their children and themselves. The new cohorts have just been registered and the team are working with those who graduated, to integrate them where they will influence their peers and church communities.

3. KINSHASA TSHANGU 2022 Mission:

Pastor Jacques Luwaku is the Missions coordinator in the DRC and the team is getting ready for the mission that will be held in Kinshasha, from 20-30 June.

4.Other projects the AE DRC team is working on:

The team is currently busy completing the rehabilitation and extension of their office building. They have just finished the roof, external doors and windows and still need to work on the electricity, plumbing, floor, and ceiling.

Please pray:

*
for the building project, the team is fundraising locally to complete their office building and hoping to occupy it soon.
*
with us that God will make a breakthrough for the needed support to enable the team to keep up with the volunteers working with them on the communications, social media, and mission reporting.
*
that the Lord will show them favor us they work on the church mobilization towards the mission in June and the 60th anniversary.
*
for the team to stay strong and focused in Christ every day as they work hard to show the people of the community the love that God has for them.
*
for the leadership of the church, that there will be unity and a resolve to work together for Jesus.
*
that God would indeed bind up the broken hearted and use these programs to give participants hope for both this world and the next.

Yours in Christ,

Jorge Rodrigues
