Listen up, John – as a Black mother who ran for Congress after her son was shot and killed, I’ve been on the receiving end of some nasty attacks before: like when the president of the NRA claimed I only won my seat in Congress because I’m a “minority female.”

Or when my Republican opponent trivialized my son Jordan’s murder and claimed I only beat her “because of emotion.” Or when Georgia Republicans tried to kick me out of Congress this election cycle using their redistricting powers.

But I expect much better than this disingenuous, false attack today from my Democratic primary opponent, Rep. Carolyn Bourdeaux:

John, Black women are too often told to step aside and stand down, but I refuse to let this disingenuous attack go unanswered. To accuse me of letting the NRA “win” is absurd. Will you help me fight back against this lie by pitching in a grassroots donation of any amount?

This is a bad-faith attack in three unique ways (in less than 280 characters):

• I will never let Brian Kemp, the NRA, and the Republican party have the final say on who represents our communities in Congress.
• As detailed in a study reported on by the Washington Post, I was the only Frontline Democrat to win a contested election in 2020 by going on offense on pro-choice policies.
• To accuse me of ceding anything to the NRA is an insult to not just the work I’ve done to end gun violence in America after my son Jordan was murdered, but to every single gun safety activist and advocate who had the courage to stand up and demand better. For the last decade we have stood up for parents, for families, and for all the children lost too soon just like my son.

I honestly expected better from a fellow Democrat, but with our primary being called “competitive” by the media, I guess she is looking for any edge she can get.
