Have you heard the news? The Senate just held a vote to protect abortion at the federal level by codifying Roe v. Wade into law – and it failed.

Because Senators refuse to end the filibuster, Democrats fell short of the necessary votes to pass the bill, meaning any attempt to protect abortion access is at a standstill. The House did their job and passed the bill, the Women’s Health Protection Act, but because of the filibuster, it may never pass in the Senate.

Team, if we don’t end the filibuster now and protect abortion access, and if the Supreme Court overturns Roe, GOP-controlled states will jump at the opportunity to make abortion illegal. Controversial anti-abortion bills like HB 481, the 6-week abortion ban which was passed and signed by Governor Kemp but later blocked by the courts, could almost immediately go into effect here in Georgia.

But because of the filibuster, Democrats don’t have enough votes to pass protections for abortion access in the Senate.

Now, Georgians could soon wake up in a state that has decided to make all abortions illegal.
