Friend, our country had the chance to codify Roe v. Wade today when abortion protection legislation was brought to the Senate floor.

But because of Senate Republicans (joined by Joe Manchin), they failed. Now, millions of women will suffer the consequences.

Friend, the Supreme Court failed us. Congress failed us. Now, Democratic governors are the FINAL line of defense against the Republican war on reproductive rights. 

Just a few days ago, Mitch McConnell even brought up the possibility of a national BAN on abortions. Not only is Congress failing to protect our rights, they are outright trying to rip them to shreds. Once they destroy these rights, Republicans have assured us they’ll come for contraception, infertility treatments like IVF (without which my family would not be here today), gay marriage, trans rights, and more.

As the former Board President of Planned Parenthood of Maryland and lifelong advocate in the fight for reproductive rights, I can tell you firsthand that this fight is about to get a whole lot tougher.

I got into this race because I’ve always believed we can never take our rights for granted, and today’s vote in the Senate is just more evidence of that. I promise you that a King-Siri administration will not rest until the right to abortion care is fully protected in Maryland.

Maryland is poised to be a reproductive care safe haven for thousands of women in the region, and all of that is at risk if we don’t flip Maryland blue in November. So this is our moment.
