Jack, I don't know where to begin.
Rep. Henry Cuellar is the last remaining Democrat in the U.S. House to oppose safe and legal access to abortion care, but that's not all. A new report says he fired a pregnant staffer for requesting maternity leave. It gets worse, after firing her at 28-weeks pregnant, he asked other staffers to write letters discrediting her job performance to back up his firing of her.
The sad part is that I shouldn't be surprised. This is the same Congressmen that voted with Trump 69% of the time during Trump’s first two years in office, including twice to build his absurd wall—which would run through Cuellar’s own district on the Southern border with Mexico. On top of that Cuellar seems to represent more of the Republican platform than that of the Democrat's:
-
He’s received major support from the private prison industry, defense contractors, the Koch network, and anti-choice dark money groups.
-
His shilling for the energy industry, including repeated votes to gut environmental regulations, has earned him the nickname “Big Oil’s favorite Democrat.”
-
He holds an A rating from the NRA and has refused to give back the $29,000 the group has donated to him over the years.
-
He endorsed George W. Bush’s presidential campaign and fundraised for a vulnerable Republican colleague when Democrats sought to take back the House in 2018.
Now more than ever, we need Democratic officials that will not only stand up to protect a person's right to have a safe and legal abortion, but also work to bring down the maternal mortality rate, and support parental leave for all Americans. Congressman Henry Cuellar's actions have proved that he is not that leader.
Progressive Jessica Cisneros, running against Cuellar for Congress, is that leader.
This is a very tight race with less than two weeks until the runoff election. Will you join me in donating $5 to her campaign so she can turn out as many voters as possible to defeat this forced-birther?
