Tell U.S. Leaders: Fund solutions to improve food insecurity globally.

[ [link removed] ]Mercy Corps

Everyone has a fundamental right
to food — but currently, there are 45 million people in 43 countries
across the globe who are at risk of severe food insecurity.

We are living through an unprecedented hunger catastrophe.

People facing food insecurity in places like Somalia, Lebanon, and
Afghanistan are doing whatever they can to keep food on the table for
their families. But with new and worsening humanitarian crises, including
the war in Ukraine, they are quickly running out of options.

[ [link removed] ]Will you demand that the U.S. Senate
support an additional $5 billion in lifesaving and long-term food security
funding?

In Uganda, where the effects of climate change have depleted food sources,
Akol Maria feeds her son porridge, which she learned to make more
nutritious in a Mercy Corps training for mothers.

The war in Ukraine has caused supply shortages, which in turn have caused
rising prices for wheat and other food. In the Horn of Africa, these cost
increases will serve as a hunger multiplier and are already having a
devastating impact on families. For Elizabeth — a Kenyan mother of seven —
this has meant rationing meals for her children, forcing her to decide
which are the most in need of food. And for Ali in Somalia, it meant
selling everything to flee his homeland with his wife and four small
children.

These are decisions no parent should have to make.

The number of people worldwide facing crisis-level hunger has more than
doubled since 2019 and is worsening every day. By scaling up emergency
funding to address the current shortfall, we can help meet the urgent
needs of families today and help them thrive in the future. Urge the U.S.
Senate to support a $5 billion supplemental appropriation to provide
long-term, lifesaving funding.

The global food security crisis is not going away. However, there is still
time to avert a hunger catastrophe. Join Mercy Corps in demanding our
leaders take swift action before it’s too late.

Sincerely,

The Mercy Corps team
